Dear Children,

The year 2020 has thrown up one of the toughest and most challenging times that we have seen in the last several decades. While the pandemic has caused recession in almost every sphere of activity, the emerging society is realising the need and potential for innovative and technology intensive solutions to pave a new normal. What does the future beckon for us?

India’s population is amongst the youngest in an ageing world. By 2022, the median age in India will be 28 years; in comparison, it will be 37 in China and the United States, 45 in Western Europe, and 49 in Japan. This will make India the youngest country in the world!

You, the budding generation of the nation are indeed privileged and fortunate to be in the middle of these glorious times. The country looks upon you to realise and exploit this demographic dividend; but success will come to you only if you are truly ‘educated’. True education is not marks & degrees; it is beyond bookish knowledge. Education must enrich you with higher skill sets in whatever you choose to do and make you a better citizen, a better person wherever you are.

The new education policy of India is comprehensive and reflects reforms to nurture innovative minds for a prosperous ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. The features which will have a long-term impact on you is the ‘departure from silos mentality’, breaking of the strict division of arts, commerce and science streams in high school. The introduction of vocational courses with an internship will also help in bridging the knowledge-jobs mismatch.

You, the young people are the innovators, creators, builders and leaders of the future. But you can transform the future only if you have skills, health, decision-making, and real choices in life. As Mahatma Gandhi said – “Be the change that you wish to see in this world”.

“Learn as much as you can while you are young, since life becomes too busy later”. – Dana Stewart Scott.
